Resident Evil 2 remake possible through fan support, says Capcom

Capcom is ready to consider a HD remake of Resident Evil 2 if there is enough support from the fans.

During a video question and answer session with GameSpot, Capcom producer Toshiaki Hirabayashi candidly spoke about the possibility of revisiting what is considered to the best title in the series so far if the fans made some noise for it.

He asserted that the company has not working on any such project at the moment, something that he felt was important to point out as such announcements were often followed by rumours of the remake already being in development.

He did, however, leave the gate open as far as a remake of Resident Evil 2 was concerned, stating that the game may consider the option in the future if the fans pushed them for it.

?Just to lay all the cards on the table, that way there's no rumor-mongering or things like that, no, we are not working on a Resident Evil 2 remake as of now,? Hirabayashi said. ?But if the fans really clamor for it; if there's a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that's something Capcom would take under consideration.?

The company seems to be struggling to offer a satisfactory survival horror game experience over the past few years despite building a reputation of being the best when it came to this particular genre over a decade ago.

Resident Evil 2 arrived on the PlayStation One in 1998 and went on to become one of the best titles of its time. The game generally received positive reviews because of its beautiful presentation, immersive gameplay and gripping story-telling.

The success of the game led to the game getting ported to other platforms as well, which included but was not limited to PC.

Capcom is all set to release Resident Evil 6, with the game scheduled to arrive on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 2, while the PC version of the game will be announced at a later date.

The trailer of the upcoming game has failed to get the fans excited, which is an alarming sigh for Capcom.
