Cartrunk Entertainment ? The Million Minute Challenge is here!

I?ve been talking about it on Twitter for a little while now. I?ve mentioned it over on Facebook event. I may have even posted the link on my Tumblr. I will do all of those things again?but now it?s time to post here and remind you that the Million Minute Challenge for 2012 has begun!

?The Million Minute Family Challenge is a program that encourages face to face interaction with friends and family. ?Our lives are changing with technology and increased workloads. We have less time to spend being with the people we enjoy?and when we do have that time it?s not always spent doing something that allows us to experience each other.

We all lead busy lives?and we?re tuned in and switched on whenever possible. The Million Minute Challenge gives me an opportunity to encourage my friends and family to sit down and spend some time together over some friendly board games.

A lot of people see the challenge and think it?s all about kids games, or family and party games. That?s not the case. It?s about all board and card games. It?s about hobby games. It?s about miniatures. It?s about rpgs. I think you can even make a case it?s about LARPS. The Million Minute Challenge is about all of these things because it?s actually about none of them. It?s about people. It?s about people connecting with people. It?s about exercising your minds and your smiles. It?s about laughing with friends and family around a table?eye to eye, face to face. That?s the heart of the Million Minute Challenge.

The specifics? Play games. Record the time you spent playing. Log your minutes and help the collective group surpass 1 Million Minutes of game play from September 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012! It?s as simple as that. Register your group, play your games, log your minutes.

Minutes are logged per game, not per player. If you have a large group and two games are being played, that counts for each game. If you have five people playing a game, those minutes only count once. You?re logging the games, not the players. This is important and something my group got a little wrong my first month the firs time I entered the challenge.

I?ve had good years and bad years in the challenge. My personal goal is always 10,000 minutes. I don?t think I made it either one of the last two years for many reasons. I?m going to make it this year. There is no doubt. We?re 4 days into the challenge and I?m already 10% of the way to my goal. I?m currently #1 in minute totals (but I know that?s going to change.)

I really love this challenge every year. It invigorates my game-playing. It focuses me to create more time to play games with my friends. It becomes a social event for me. I end up playing more games between September and December each year than I do the rest of the year (well, when I?m having a good challenge year.) I love participating?and I want you to consider joining in as well.

I?ll try to post my Million Minute Monday Updates each week. Including my current total and standings. I know, it?s not a contest or a race?it?s more of a co-operative game where each group contributes to the total. I still like to know where I stand and I love to do my part for the grand total. It may feel like a competition?but the truth is that it?s just great fun.

The Million Minute Challenge is one of my favorite events each year. Join us and let?s make it to 1 million minutes together!
