Egyptian Banker Accused Of Abusing Maid To Be Arraigned

A second high-powered international banker now faces charges of sexually assaulting a maid at a Manhattan hotel.

Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, of Egypt, was arrested on Monday after an incident at The Pierre, a hotel on the Upper East Side.

According to The Associated Press:

"The maid was called to Omar's room Sunday night to drop off tissues, police said. But once inside the 74-year-old's room, police said Omar would not let her leave and touched her inappropriately. The encounter was not reported until Monday, police said."

He is to be arraigned today. Omar, the AP adds, "is the former chairman of Egypt's Bank of Alexandria. ... [He] is currently the board chairman of the El-Mex Salines Co., a state-run salt production company."

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, then the head of the International Monetary Fund, was arrested in New York on May 14. He's charged with sexually assaulting a maid at the Sofitel hotel in midtown Manhattan.
