Cuban Special Education Marks 51 Years with New Achievements ...

Cuba Special Education is 51 years old now, with more than 12,000 teachers dedicated to teaching citizens under the principles of fairness and equal opportunity. In statements to Prensa Latina, the director of the Latin American Reference Center for Special Education, Santiago Borges, also noted that there are more than 500 special ed teachers with masters degrees and 122 with doctorates in Pedagogical Sciences in Cuba.

Through cooperation agreements, 400 masters students were also prepared in several countries, said the official.

After half a century, there has been sustained improvement of study plans in this type of education.

?We have resisted more than 50 years of economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, but we introduced and validated new technologies for information and communication in order to ensure the access of children and adolescents to different types of learning?, he said.

?Today we have 372 schools where we provide special education to an enrollment of up to 39,340 children and young people with a staff of 15,703 teachers.
