Health and Fitness ? Eczema the Most Common Atopic Dermatitis ...

Eczema is a dreadful dermatological condition which can affect any part of the body. The various symptoms are skin blisters, red, brownish, oozing and scaly, which cause lot of itching. Atopic eczema is the most common condition, commonly known as atopic dermatitis, atopic means lining of the skin and dermatitis means inflammation of the skin. This condition does not even spare nose and lining of the lungs.

Atopic eczema is often a hereditary allergy which is passed from one generation to other. The other hereditary conditions which run into generations are hay fever, asthma, and sensitive skin. It is an established fact that atopic dermatitis is a family disease, if one person in the family gets it, chances are other family members (like father, aunts, brothers, sisters, mother and uncles) can also get affected.

Atopic dermatitis is very common condition in the world, in the United States alone 3% of the population gets affected and around 10% of the infants are victim of this condition across the world. This disease can affect any time in one?s life span, but it very common in infants and young adults. It is commonly seen that 65% who suffer from atopic eczema get the symptoms even before their first birthday.

The common places affected are forehead, neck, arms, ears and lungs. It starts at one point of the body and rapidly spreads to the other parts. As such, there is no quick cure available, but there are certain treatment plans which can at least lessen the agony of the patient. If you consult a skin specialist or a doctor, the first advice will be drastic change in the lifestyle, though lifestyle may not be the primary reason of atopic eczema. In some cases lifestyle may contribute the flare up of the disease, which may worsen the situation by aggravating lesions and blisters which you may want to get rid of.

Normally a dermatologist or a doctor may ask for an allergy test to find the exact cause of the allergy, this will help to know your daily contacts with the allergens, which might be the big culprit of the disease. Some of the products, which might be the real culprits, are daily use items like detergents of scented cr?me, soaps and various lotions. The victim of atopic eczema will have a very dry skin; this can be due to disease or after affect of the eczema. The common blunders done by the patients is enhanced use of various cr?mes and lotion, this is mostly seen in women patients.

The use of scented cr?mes should normally be avoided and unscented cr?mes can be an ideal choice. The scented creams often act as catalyst to trigger other allergies. The doctors often prescribe cr?mes and lotion to provide relief from itching and burning, which also gives soothing effect to the patients. There are many treatment plans available over the counter at some medical stores, but some of the drugs prescribed in severe conditions are available only on doctor?s prescriptions. It is always advisable to see the doctor or a dermatologist in the initial stage of the atopic eczema, the sooner it is treated, and the recovery will be faster. It is always essential to keep yourself free of tension and stress; as such conditions are also responsible for such conditions.

You must ensure to keep yourself away from those conditions which can trigger the disease like daily allergy causing agents. You must also establish the reason which causes such conditions, like avoiding detergents, soaps and other lotion and cr?mes which are responsible for causing allergies. If any member of your family is suffering from atopic eczema, just ensure other family members do not get it. If any such conditions develop, just do not go for self medication; consult a good dermatologist or a doctor for proper treatment and diagnosis. Always remember prevention is better than cure, if you maintain a good bodily hygiene, chances are that you may never have to come across such a dreadful skin disorder. Always use unscented cr?mes and lotion which normally do not contain ingredient which are harmful to the skin. A better lifestyle can save you from many diseases including atopic eczema.

Adult sandbox in Las Vegas isn't Tonka trucks

Las Vegas has seen its share of heavy construction equipment as it bulldozed its way through one giant casino project after another. But with the recession having gutted the construction industry, excavators and bulldozers near the Strip are being put to use as toys for thrill-seeking visitors.

A business owner has created what amounts to a life-sized sandbox for adults, who pay up to $750 each to push around dirt, rock and huge tires with the earth-moving construction equipment. All it takes is a 10-minute classroom lesson and guidance from trainers through headsets.

"I thought it would be much clunkier, and the lighter you are with the controls, the easier it worked," said Mary Fitzsimons, an emergency room doctor from Walnut Creek, California, who spent roughly two hours digging a trench, moving tires and using the machine's bucket to scoop basketballs atop cones.

"I thought I wouldn't pick it up, I thought I would totally futz it up," Fitzsimons said.

Ed Mumm said he started Dig This after renting and operating an excavator for himself for two days while building a house in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He quickly realized that toying with heavy construction equipment is a diversion that takes participants completely out of their everyday lives.

"I thought to myself: If I'm having this much fun, imagine the amount of people that don't get to do this stuff that would love to do this," he said.

"When they're in those machines, everything else doesn't mean anything," added Mumm, 45. "They've forgotten about all the stresses in their lives because the fact is, they've got to focus on that piece of equipment. When they get in there and they rev up that engine, they know they've got a serious program on their hands."

The play sandbox sits just across the freeway from the Las Vegas Strip, near remnants of an actual construction industry that nosedived in 2008 and hasn't recovered. Major projects, including the Fontainebleau Las Vegas and Boyd Gaming Corp.'s Echelon, were started and partially financed but never completed as the Great Recession walloped the gambling industry and made it clear that steady casino construction seen over the past 20 years was over.

Story: Never-opened Vegas hotel may be imploded

State figures showed just over 54,000 construction workers employed in Nevada in July, down 8.6 percent compared with July 2010. There are no new major hotel or casino developments scheduled to open through the end of next year, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Travis Mills, a trainer at Dig This who has worked construction, said he hopes to never go back to the industry.

"A lot of my construction friends are just sitting at home and there's nothing going on," the 24-year-old said as he watched Fitzsimons digging dirt.

"This is a lot more fun ? I don't get yelled at by my superintendent all day," Mills said. "I like being around equipment, so that's a plus."

Fitzsimons said she was surprised by how delicate the machines can be, even as they lift objects that would be very difficult to maneuver manually. But she said her short lesson doesn't mean she'd be able to pitch in on a worksite if they need an extra hand.

"I don't think I could jump in and do it but at least I have a better understanding of what they're doing," she said. "No, I'm not ready yet."

Glenn Brumage On S3 And The Expanding Chinese Market ...

Glenn Brumage at the IASC Summit

Glenn Brumage at this year's IASC Summit

Glenn Brumage grew up not knowing much about China other than that it was communist, a bit scary, and that we would never want to get into a land war with them. But after taking his first trip to Beijing three and a half years ago for a surf summit, Brumage learned something else about the country - that ?it was really, really cool.?

Brumage, who built an impressive r?sum? over the years with organization such as Innes, Tum Yeto, and IASC, instantly saw a huge array of possibilities to help create an action sports culture in the fastest growing country in the world. ?China?s booming economy has drawn comparisons between its current population and the US?s in the 1950s, with limitless opportunities as an emerging consumer class figures out what to do with their newly found wealth.

?Right now you can count the number of Chinese surfers on one hand and we probably have a hundred skateboarders in all of the big cities, which really isn?t saying a lot,? says Brumage. ? But, there are 1.6 billion people, there?s 240 million people in their middle class. That?s a new thing. Within three years it?ll be up to the entire US population. Their middle class is already starting to overshadow our entire population and it?ll be more than 500 million, half a billion, in five years.?

That realization triggered an ?aha? moment for Brumage who joined Wabsono International, a Chinese company that is working to license US action sports brands in the market, as its director of business development, and began a crash course in the Chinese market, ranging from retail psychology to political science, to better navigate the country?s channels.

china1-069Since that point, Brumage has helped launch numerous local surf and skate competitions and conferences to develop China?s domestic market and educate US brands, as well as local retailers, about the possibilities of the country?s action sports market.

One thing that became glaringly necessary through this process was creating an independent trade agency to serve as a liaison for brands and retailers, which will eventually include a trade show component, specifically focused on the massive Chinese market. From this, S3 (Surf, Skate, Snow) was born, following the success of the Surfing China organization in establishing events and competitions, as well as the China Action Sports Exhibition, CASE.

We caught up with Brumage to learn more about the new organization and the current state of the domestic Chinese market:

Why did you guys decide to launch S3?

Wabsono?s end game is licensing a certain number of key brands and helping develop the market as any brand would do. It took us about two years of market research and really getting to know the retailers and situation over there, and we discovered that we need SIMA, IASC, and SIA and we need them [together] and we need them immediately.

S3's Andrew Manly

S3's Andrew Manly

We got together with Andrew Manly, who has run a number of larger trade organizations, not in our industry, but in China, and understands the government situation, the structure of business and how it works and we said, look, we?ll help you get this started, it needs to live on its own. It?s independent.

S3 is there to help a brand from the States get into the market on its own or with a partner, pick the right partner, get through the government red tape to open a business there.

So it?s really like a consulting service supported by brands looking to come over?

It will be supported in the long run because it will run a trade show. Even though Surf Expo is already taking a step in that direction, they?re doing it in Singapore, which is great for Australasia, but does nothing for Mainland China. They?re not going to go to Singapore - they say, ?if you?re going to sell me something, you better come to my country.?

Have you guys set a date for that yet?

We have a thing called the China Action Sports Expo, CASE, that we?ve done twice. They were tiny, almost to the point of failure that we funded at Wabsono. It was a very, very beginning stage. We?ll build on that, but we?ve turned it over. It needs to be entirely neutral. You can?t be involved with another brand. I wouldn?t go to a Billabong show with Quiksilver product. The other thing is in China, trade organizations are in a lot of cases government sponsored. They?re trying to develop trade and that?s another way that S3 will be funded. It?s entirely different than SIMA or SIA. There will be dues, but for the most part that?s not how will it live.

When are you planning the next CASE?

I?ve convinced them to move it from September, it?s the wrong time of year for China, to December or January and we?re trying to move it to Beijing, but we?re still very much in the early stages. Worst-case scenario, CASE will actually take a one year hiatus while S3 gets organized and more brands as members.

From the development side, what have you found really speaks to potential Chinese customers and action sports enthusiasts as far as messaging and marketing?

The thing that seems the most positive is the correlation between their youth and our youth in the 1950s. There are so many easy correlations. You extrapolate that and unless something crazy happens like the government says ?skateboarding is dangerous-you can?t do that, ?which they can do. It scares me about surfing and skating - all you have to have is somebody drown on a big day or break their neck skateboarding and we?re hosed. They?ll make it illegal, and if they say it?s illegal, it?s truly illegal.

So does the safety message get played up more there?

Right now there?s no message on safety. We?re trying to avoid it because even with protective gear you still get hurt. CASE is managing the government liaisons for safety. That?s a much more critical piece in China than here.? If they decide you have to wear a helmet, there?s no being Linglei and not doing it.

Going back to the possibilities, kids are kids everywhere. Even if they?re focusing on college, they?re likely to think outside the norm and do what their parents didn?t. They?re seeing a future and economy that?s entirely different from what their parents saw.screen-shot-2011-08-30-at-12406-pm

You must have seen something really promising as far as this market to throw your hat in. What made you determine that China was the next horizon and that it was worth moving your focus away from the States?

The first thing is just the amount of potential that?s there. It?s so fricking massive - everything from their ski areas becoming more sophisticated and exploring and finding more places to board, to an immense amount of uncharted surf spots along a coast that no one goes to.

The other part of it, is the guys that I work with and their interest in trying to do it right and be legit. There are a shitload of expat Americans and Australians over there just trying to make a quick buck. They don?t care how they present what we do, our sports. I grew up surfing in San Clemente, I was a ski and snowboard rep for too damn long, I?m really married to this culture and it aggravates me when guys do things that I perceive as being counterproductive in a super new market.

It sounds like you have some pretty cool contests in the works as well?

I?m pretty stoked about the skate series we?re doing. Our guys did it for all the right reasons and all the right ways. X Games is already here. They?ve actually held a Dew Tour, and for the most part, all those things have left the Chinese skater out of the loop. There aren?t a whole lot of vert skaters, they?ve only got a few hot snowboarders, so these have just been media plays and not about the locals. It?s great to show how cool vert is, but when we looked at it, we realized it needs to be the Chinese Maloof Money Cup. It needs to be for Chinese skaters and them alone.

A big part of our industry is getting people stoked on it. I know that there are going to be a ton of skateboarders, that?s going to change the complexion of our business in China and the culture, media and everything else.

UN warns Libya is short of water, fuel, medicine (AP)

TRIPOLI, Libya ? The U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Libya has warned the country faces critical shortages of drinking water, food, fuel and medicine, following the six-month civil war between rebels and Moammar Gadhafi's forces that disrupted supply lines and damaged infrastructure.

The fighting has subsided in many area, including the capital Tripoli, since the rebels stormed in over a week ago, effectively ending Gadhafi's rule.

Since then, more than half a dozen U.N. agencies have returned to Tripoli to help with the country's humanitarian needs, the U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Libya, Panos Moumtzis, said late Thursday.

Panos said the U.N. has brought in 11 million bottles of water and will bring in 600 metric tons of food and 100 million euros worth of medicine. He warned, however, that he sees the U.N. aid as temporary.

"This country has a lot of resources and we view the humanitarian needs as short-term," he said. "I don't foresee the humanitarian program going beyond the end of the year maximum."

While rebel forces have seized most of the country, they have yet to capture Gadhafi or members of his family. Meanwhile, their forces have been advancing on the few remaining loyalist bastions.

In a fiery broadcast from hiding, Gadhafi warned late Thursday that loyal tribes in his main strongholds were armed and preparing for battle ? a show of defiance hours after rebels extended a deadline for the surrender of the fugitive leader's hometown of Sirte.

Rebel commanders have been negotiating with tribal leaders in Gadhafi's hometown of Sirte, hoping to avoid further bloodshed. They announced Thursday that they had extended the negotiations' deadline for another week, from this coming Saturday.

"We want to save our fighters and not lose a single one in battles with Gadhafi's forces," said Mohammed al-Rajali, a spokesman for the rebel leadership in the eastern city of Benghazi.

"In the end, we will get Sirte, even if we have to cut water and electricity" and let NATO pound it with airstrikes, he said.

The rebels have been hunting for Gadhafi since he was forced into hiding after they swept into Tripoli on Aug. 20 and gained control of most of the capital in subsequent days of fierce fighting.

"We won't surrender again; we are not women. We will keep fighting," Gadhafi said in a blustery tone in the audio statement, broadcast by Syrian-based Al-Rai TV. His voice was recognizable, and Al-Rai has previously broadcast statements by Gadhafi and his sons.

Gadhafi said the tribes in Sirte and Bani Walid are armed and "there is no way they will submit." He called for continued resistance, warning "the battle will be long and let Libya burn."

In a second late-night audio, also broadcast on the Syrian channel, Gadhafi spoke in more measured tones and called for a long insurgency. "We will fight them everywhere," he said. "We will burn the ground under their feet."

He said NATO was trying to occupy Libya and steal its oil.

"Get ready to fight the occupation. ... Get ready for a long war, imposed on us," Gadhafi added. "Get ready for the guerrilla war."

He also called Sirte "the capital of the resistance."

The rebels dismiss the threats as empty rhetoric. They believe Gadhafi may be in one of their three key targets: Sirte, Bani Walid, which lies 90 miles (140 kilometers) southeast of Tripoli, or the southern city of Sabha.

Backed by NATO airstrikes, the rebels are pushing toward those three targets.

TheParanoidGamer Review: Steel Series Spectrum 7XB Wireless ...

I never understood why anyone would pay for a gaming headset, and I always just shrugged it off as part of gaming; always content with my TV speakers to do the job for me. I can say now that I?m a complete moron? and thankfully I was given the opportunity to review a fantastic headset from SteelSeries.

?

It didn?t take long before I was fully immersed in my gameplay experience with the the Spectrum 7XB, delivering fantastic sound quality for my gaming experience. Providing fantastic sound quality is great but means nothing when you can hear outside sounds, and thankfully these puppies do a stellar job of omitting outside noise. One of the most important things is whether a headset is comfortable, and the Spectrum 7XB is very comfortable to wear. Even during extending gaming sessions (3-5 hours) they hold up extremely well, and don?t provide any sort of discomfort.

One of the only downsides was the setup. Instead of plugging in the transmitter box to the USB port in the Xbox 360, I had to also connect the headset?s audio cords to the TV. Along with those cords and devices, there?s also the wire connecting to the 360?s controller in order to activate chatting capabilities; because we all know you can?t play Call of Duty or Halo without the ability to trash talk. Thankfully, it?s not a complicated setup and it?s fairly simple to hook up, though PS3 headsets don?t require the extra cords that come with Xbox 360 gaming headsets; so this is somewhat of a downside. The aesthetics of the headset don?t really impress, however they do look nice, and that?s about it. They certainly won?t compete visually with the likes of some Astro and Razer headsets.

Another good feature that will no doubt come in handy to some is the fact that the 7XB can break down into four pieces for easy traveling to LAN parties, or some tourney you may want to participate in.

By default, it doesn?t take much the bring this headset alive, you are then given fantastic sound quality in its default mode. Wait what? There?s multiple sound settings? Well yes, and they offer more options for your entertainment experience. More options is a good thing. Besides the default option which still provides fantastic audio you also get Performance, for all the hardcore Call of Duty fanatics out there, Immersion for optimized environmental sound and game music and, Entertainment for your music and movies that you?re watching. It should be noted that for a wireless headset these provide amazing sound quality. I must say after using the Spectrum 7XB?s anytime I see some Turtle Beach headsets I can?t help feel disgusted by the lack of comfort and even the the sound. It?s like eating from a five star restaurant then right afterwards your done with your delicious meal you head over to McDonald?s to have a happy meal; you can?t help but feel disgusted with what your eating now compared to what you had before.

Honestly, that?s how I feel when it comes to other headset?s now compared to the Spectrum 7XB.

Sony Walkman Mobile Entertainment Player hands-on (video)

You may well have missed it in today's deluge of Sony product announcements, but the company showed off the latest device to carry its age-old Walkman brand. The 4.3-inch handset runs Android Gingerbread, and is still in its early stages at the moment, carrying the fairly uninspired Walkman Mobile Entertainment Player moniker. The device has an HDMI port that can be used to play things like mobile games on an HDTV. Sony seemed far less interested in that functionality than the handset's Throw feature, however, which offers up wireless transfers to devices like the company's Bravia TV line. We gave it a whirl, and the whole thing was rather painless, even in a setting like Sony's booth, where the place is lousy with Bravia sets. The phone, it seems, isn't quite ready for primetime, so we don't have any word on pricing or available yet. Check out a video of the Walkman in action, after the break.
